Just had to share this lovely message from a participant in one of my current Inspired Success Marketing Workshops:

"Ronnie - My morning-after response to the class and the materials on your website:

1)    I believe you've really nailed the (marketing) issues a SOHO person struggles with.

2)    The information you offer is practical, useful, clear and genuinely helpful.

3)    As a journalist and public speaker myself, I commend the clarity, focus and directness of your written and spoken messages.

4)    Aaaagh. This is deep brain and soul work.

5)    It's amazing how the right people appear in your life just at the right moment, isn't it???"

I'll never forget the first morning of my new business as a coach, how happy and excited I was to begin doing the work I was called to do.

But just moments later, one glance at my calendar had squelched my enthusiasm.

Why? Because on the very first day of my new business, the day that I had looked forward to and waited for with eager anticpation, there was nothing on my calendar.

No meetings (which was, frankly, a blessing!), but no appointments, either. Not that day, nor the next, nor the next, well, never.

Nothing. Nada. Zilch.

Nothing on my calendar meant nothing to do--no clients to help, no projects to work on, no money to earn. Ouch.

And as hard as I stared at my calendar, no client appointments magically appeared.

All I could think was, OK, seven hours until Oprah. What in the world would I do 'til then?

And then I thought (in a total panic), what if this whole coaching thing doesn't work out for me?

After a few minutes of paralyzing fear, I made what turned out to be a life-changing a decision: I would not let anything get in my way of being successful, period.

That day was the day I began developing a program that would attract clients quickly and easily, because I hated the feeling of fear and helplessness that washed over me like a tidal wave of cold reality water, and I resolved never to feel that way again.

Why am I telling you this? Why am I spilling my guts about my own frailties and foibles?

Because I want you to understand, to see, to know that I started from scratch, with nothing more than an idea for a business (a half-baked idea, at that) and a dream of being successful, and I made it happen.

What does that mean to you? It means if I can make a coaching business work, you can, too. And now, you can use the very same process that I used to build your business.

Before you flip out, don't worry: My process doesn't require any special marketing expertise. (Seriously!) At the time, I hadn't ever attended a marketing class (not even in college), much less read books on marketing.

My process doesn't require a lot of start up funding. As a matter of fact, my total marketing budget for the first few years as a coach was under $100 a month. (And yes, you can learn exactly how I spent that money, as well as get some ideas for a great low-cost high-return marketing budget for your business, too, but more about that later).

My process doesn't depend on luck. While it is true that I seem to have had more than my fair share of "good luck," I believe the reason is that I was prepared to both recognize and seize opportunities as they came up.

Now, I am not promising that you or anyone else will make the same amount of money that I have, or as quickly, because that is up to you.

On the other hand, you might even do better than I did, because you can have the advantage of having a coach who made all the mistakes for you, and who is willing to share her work, but I am getting ahead of myself again here.

You might be smarter, a better or more talented coach, even a kinder person than I, so it is not outside the realm of possibility (probablility?) that you could exceed my results hugely (as some of my clients actually have).

Speaking of talent, the good news is that talent isn't all that is necessary. You just need to know how to prepare yourself, how to present yourself, and how to allow yourself to be successful.

And just in case you are wondering, my process has worked with, shall we say, special populations; that is to say, people with learning and social disabilities as well as other challenges. So, as long as you can read directions and follow a list, you can do what I've done, no problem.

My process doesn't require that you have an existing network fo contacts. One client, a coach, built her business to full in a new city where she didn't know a soul in just a few months, and she's been a roaring success (you have probably heard of her if you are reading this) ever since, using my tools and methods.

So what does my process require? Not a lot, really. Just two things:

First, suspension of disbelief. (Notice that I am asking you to "believe" before you try.) All that is required of you at first is that you put aside the doubts, release the fears, and banish the suspicions about your own ability to build a business long enough to give the process a chance to work. Long enough to put my strategies into action so that you can see the results for yourself.

Yes, I am talking about trust. Yes, you can do this.

Seriously, did you lose any sleep over the fact that Monica and Rachel were able to afford a fabulous two-bedroom apartment in New York City on Friends? Nah, you were willing to suspend your disbelief long enough for the actors to hit their punchlines and make you laugh.

See, you can do this! Believe me, what I ask you to believe will be even easier because it will happen faster (over four months, which is about half a season of a sitcom) and you will be actively involved long enough to learn my strategies, put them into action, and see the results for yourself (which, you have to agree, is more than you will get from 12 weeks of watching reruns).

The second thing my process requires is your commitment. If you don't give the process a chance, it can't work for you! And if you don't actually do the process, it can't work for you, so it does require commitment.

It has been said that if you keep doing what you've been doing, you're going to keep getting what you've already got, which means that your business will stay exactly where it is today unless you choose to do something about it. In other words, if you want things (like your revenue, your client roster, your overall success) to be different (or ideally, better) tomorrow, you have got to do something different today.

So here's the deal: I am encouraging you to do something different, to invest in yourself and your future success by taking a series of steps toward your own more prosperous future. Simply suspend your disbelief that "nothing will work for you" long enough to give yourself a chance to be successful, and commit to making that happen.

If I am wrong (hey, it could happen), nothing will change. But if I am right, using my process will help you to develop the strategies, the tools, the process, and the confidence to succeed, and isn't that what you want?

Yes? Did you say that is exactly what you want?

Excellent! Let's make it happen; here's your link to get started now.

The people who read my newsletter, my Twitter tweets, and this site are WONDERFUL!!

For example, John Thomas "Kooz" Kuczmarski wrote me a note in response to the newsletter that went out yesterday, saying, "These articles are exceptional and extremely helpful and they help me stay on track".

"Wouldn't it be good for YOU as a coach to have comment-features built-in to your articles to have comments like mine above below the article attracting more readership as well as adding mini-testimonials for each article (a positive comment I think from a marketing POV is like a mini-testimonial)."

Yep, John, you are absolutely right, and so that is exactly what I will do from this day forward! The first article to get the treatment is the newest one about how to keep clients (read it here).

Thank you, John, and everyone else who emailed in nice comments. You made my day. Heck, you make my day every day!

Can you afford to lose any more clients? No? Most of us can't afford to lose any clients (customers, patients, whatever) but somehow we do. Here's my take on why that happens, and what we can do to keep them.

It is a very simple and easy thing, but so few of us actually do it.
